HEREDITARY ORDER OF THE

AUSTRIAN EAGLE OF FRANCONIA

The Hereditary Order of the Austrian Eagle of Franconia is a society within the Noble Company of St. Mary of Walsingham comprised of Companions who are descendants of the House of Babenberg, the original ruling family of Austria, and/or their eventual successors, the House of Habsburg. The order's name comes in part from the origins of the Babenbergs in Franconia. The society fosters knowledge and interest in the heritage of the Austrian lands and their role within the Holy Roman Empire. The order's emblem consists of the red and white Babenberg coat of arms on a black eagle. It is surrounded by mantling in the Babenberg colors of red and white and surmounted by an ancient electoral cap.
